President Melody Maxson Melody Maxson A fourth year graduate student working for Dr. Kash's group, Melody studies the characteristics and growth processes of a class of semiconductors called the heterovalent ternary nitrides. She enjoys a varied exercise routine, painting, reading steampunk romance novels, and saying "hi" to every dog she meets. Her cat, Molly, is gracious enough to let her sleep in Molly's apartment, provided she continues to pay rent.
Vice President Rob Halliday Rob Halliday Rob is a fourth year student in Corbin Covault's High Energy Astrophysics group. Originally from Lincolnshire, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, Rob obtained his bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 2013. As a graduate student, Rob studies cosmic ray physics, and is a collaborator at the Pierre Auger Observatory. His specific work and interests include timing and GPS, shower dynamics and composition, particle physics applications and measurements in cosmic ray showers and embedded systems for scientific applications. In his free time, he enjoys all forms of gaming (tabletop of all sorts and computer games of most genres), movies and television shows, especially sci-fi and good drama/action, and music of almost all sorts, as well as making music when the opportunity arises. Secretary/Treasurer Allen Foster Allen Foster Allen is a second year grad student in John Ruhl's lab working on the South Pole Telescope. In his spare time he enjoys wondering what people do with spare time, and when he isn't doing that, he's most likely out running or playing shotty defense for the CWRU club hockey team.
Faculty Liaison Mike McMaster Mike McMaster Michael McMaster is a third year physics student working in biomaterials, organic photovoltaics, and nonlinear optics under Professor Ken Singer. He spends a majority of his free time reading novels and comics, watching cult movies, and throwing discs. You can usually find him in the basement of the physics department listening to music way too loudly.
GCAS Rrpresentative Mohamed ElKabbash Mohamed ElKabbash Mohammed am a PhD student at the Nanoplasm lab. He focuses on fundamental and applied aspects of active plasmonics and metamaterials. In particular he works on studying the ultrafast dynamics of plasmon-gain interactions, plasmonic cavity quantum electrodynamics, plasmonic nano-antennas, perfect light absorption , and development of biosensors and gas sensors using metamaterials. He obtained his bachelors (2007) and masters (2009) in Law from Alexandria law school, Egypt as well as Bachelors of Arts in Physics and Economics (2012) from Illinois Wesleyan University. Mohamed enjoys cooking and feeling bad about not having a hobby in his spare time.
First Year Representative Roshan Abraham First Year Rep I am a first year student looking to work in Cosmology theory. I have a Bachelors in Engineering from India. Love reading history and politics and enjoy food to an unhealthy extent. Greatest love in life (apart from physics of course ;) ) are the mountains. I play a little bit of football and refuse to call it soccer.
