Jeremy Trombley, Physics GSS Rep, 2007-2008
The main purpose of us having a representative in the Graduate Student Senate (GSS) is to have a spokesperson for the physics department graduate student body. On every issue brought before the senate I have tried to speak for what is best for our department, including sending the mandatory RTA ass vote to referendum.
For the past two years the annual Pumpkin Drop event at the end of October has been run jointly by the PGSA and PAC. The PGSA portion of the fees comes from the GSS. In order to receive this funding the PGSA first has to be recognized by the GSS which isnŐt done until the first meeting on the first Thursday of September. After this is done it is important for the senator to submit the Funding Request Form as soon as possible to guarantee there will be funding for the drop.
I also tried to forward all information important to the Physics Graduate students and also email regarding any important senate decisions. I think I kept everyone well informed about what was going on outside our department but still had a direct effect on us.
