Purpose:
The Case Western Reserve University Physics and Astronomy Club
is an organization dedicated to promoting an interest in physics and astronomy
within the undergraduate student body. The club membership is open to all members
of the CWRU student body and all meetings will be open to all members of the
CWRU community.
Non-Discriminatory Clause:
The CWRU Physics and Astronomy Club admits members of any race,
religion, age, sex, color, disability, sexual orientation and national or ethnic
origin to all the rights and privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded
or made available to members of the CWRU Physics and Astronomy Club. It (the
CWRU Physics and Astronomy Club) does not discriminate on the basis of race,
religion, age, sex, color, disability, sexual orientation or national or ethnic
origin in administering its policies, membership policies, events, meetings,
or any other CWRU Physics and Astronomy Club activity.
Organization:
The Physics and Astronomy Club (PAC) shall be organized in the following way:
General meetings:
General club meetings will be open to all club members and
the campus community. There is no required agenda for club meetings; meeting
agendas may consist of anything agreed upon by the executive officers. Meetings
will be held on a semi-regular basis at a time and place agreed upon by the executive
officers.
Executive meetings:
Executive meetings will be held as needed by the executive
officers, for the express purpose of organizing club activities and taking care
of general club business. Meetings must have at least two club officials present.
| President: |
The President of PAC will be directly responsible for all club activities.
He will organize and head all executive meetings and general club meetings.
The president will be responsible for obtaining annual USG recognition and
will represent the Club at any university function. |
| Vice-President: |
The Vice-President will be responsible for assisting the president carry
out his duties. In the absence of the president, the vice-president, acting
as President-Pro Tempore, will conduct club meetings and executive officer
meetings. |
| Secretary: |
The Secretary will be responsible for all official club correspondence.
He will be responsible for advertising club activities and contacting guest
speakers and club members. |
| Treasurer: |
The PAC Treasurer will be responsible for club finances. He will be responsible
for the completion of any USG funding requests and the reimbursement for club-related
expenses to any club member. |
| Astronomy Representative: |
The Astronomy Representative will be the club's leaision to the CWRU Department
of Astronomy. |
Officer Elections:
Officer terms shall be for one year, starting from the time
of election until the next election. There will be no term limits for officers,
and no officer may hold more than one office at the same time in any given academic
year.
Elections will be held at a general club meeting once a year
at the end of the spring semester. An announcement will be made in advance informing
club members of the day and time of the election.
Nominations may be made by any club member. Nominations may
be made in absentia. Nominees may make a short candidacy speech.
Voting shall occur by popular voice, and will be conducted
in a manner agreed upon by all officers and a majority of present club members.
Members must be present at the meeting in order to cast a vote. Nominations and
elections for each office will occur individually and will be conducted by the
current club president, unless the president is running for that office, in which
case another officer will be responsible for running that election. Candidates
for election are eligible to vote in their election, but they may not witness
the actual casting and tabulation of votes. Tabulation of votes will occur immediately
following the vote in front of all club members (excluding candidates) present
at the meeting.
In the event of a tie vote, a runoff election will be held
immediately between the candidates involved.
If any officer, in the course of his term decides to step down
from his office, a special election will be held at the next general meeting,
following the rules outlined above.
Constitutional Amendments:
The Club Constitution will be made available to any club member
who requests it. Any member may request an amendment to the Constitution. The
amendment request will be formalized by the executive officers and an amendment
vote will be taken at the next club meeting. If a 2/3 vote approves the amendment,
it will be considered a part of the constitution.
This Constitution was ratified for the 1999-2000 Academic Year, and the original
copy is on file in the USG office.
