Welcome to the Jobs website for available positions in the Physics Department at Case Western Reserve University

Junior and Senior Faculty Positions in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics

In a major joint venture, Case Western Reserve University, Kent State University, and Youngstown State University have received a multimillion dollar award from the State of Ohio to establish a Research Cluster on Surfaces in Advanced Materials. The Research Cluster will invest aggressively in senior and junior research talent and related facilities and equipment. As a part of this program, Case Western Reserve University will hire one senior experimentalist at the tenured associate professor level or higher, as commensurate with experience, for the Ohio Research Scholar endowed chair in the broad area of surface and interface-related physics. Additionally, one tenure-track junior experimentalist will be hired in this field. The candidates will have significant resources available, and will interact with our faculty involved in soft matter, fluids, surface and thin film phenomena, semiconductors, nanoscopic control of crystal growth, electron transport, nanoelectronics, and optics, as well as with colleagues at Kent State and Youngstown State Universities. Further information about our department is available on the website http://www.phys.case.edu.

For both positions, responsibilities include conducting a vigorous program of innovative and funded research, supervising graduate students, and teaching. The standard teaching load is one course per semester. Qualifications for both positions include a Ph.D. or equivalent in physics or a closely related discipline, as well as a record of outstanding scholarly research appropriate to the level of the position. Candidates must have a strong interest in teaching and possess the skills needed to be an effective instructor.

Review of senior applications will begin on September 15, 2008 and will continue until the position is filled. Applications for the junior position should be received by December 1, 2008 to receive full consideration. To apply, please submit a letter of application, CV, and statements of research plans and teaching; applicants for the junior position should include in their CV contact information for at least three references. Electronic applications are preferred and should be submitted via http://www.phys.cwru.edu/jobs. Alternatively, paper applications may be submitted to either “Senior CM Search” or “Junior CM Search”, Department of Physics, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio 44106-7079 USA.
