In a major joint venture, Case Western Reserve University, Kent State University, and Youngstown State University have received a multimillion dollar award from the State of Ohio to establish a Research Cluster on Surfaces in Advanced Materials. The Research Cluster will invest aggressively in senior and junior research talent and related facilities and equipment. As a part of this program, Case Western Reserve University will hire one senior experimentalist at the tenured associate professor level or higher, as commensurate with experience, for the Ohio Research Scholar endowed chair in the broad area of surface and interface-related physics. Additionally, one tenure-track junior experimentalist will be hired in this field. The candidates will have significant resources available, and will interact with our faculty involved in soft matter, fluids, surface and thin film phenomena, semiconductors, nanoscopic control of crystal growth, electron transport, nanoelectronics, and optics, as well as with colleagues at Kent State and Youngstown State Universities. For both positions, responsibilities include conducting a vigorous program of innovative and funded research, supervising graduate students, and teaching. The standard teaching load is one course per semester. Qualifications for both positions include a Ph.D. or equivalent in physics or a closely related discipline, as well as a record of outstanding scholarly research appropriate to the level of the position. Candidates must have a strong interest in teaching and possess the skills needed to be an effective instructor.
