The Yeager Center for Electrochemical Sciences (YCES) fosters education and research among students and faculty from biomedical engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics and other disciplines. YCES is internationally receognized and dedicated to advances in all aspects of electrochemical sciences and electrochemical systems and devices.
Research interests include: electrocatalysis; materials synthesis, performance and characterization; process and system and modeling; quantum chemistry; electrodeposition; and corrosion. Applications include fuel cells, batteries, sensors, electroplating, functional polymers and ceramics. YCES offers short courses annually in Electrochemical Engineering and Electrochemical Measurements along with special topic workshops.
In order to focus on the needs and importance of electrochemistry and its related technologies, the Case Laboratories for Electrochemical Studies was founded at Case Western Reserve University in the fall of 1976. To extend this interdisciplinary philosophy into broader cooperation between the University and the industrial sector, CLES was renamed the Case Center for Electrochemical Sciences (CCES) in 1981. In 1994, CCES honored Dr. Ernest B. Yeager (YCES founder and the Frank Hovorka Professor of Chemistry at Case), pioneering electrochemist and long time Director of CCES. The Center was renamed the Ernest B. Yeager Center for Electrochemical Sciences (YCES) after him.
