At this colloquium I discuss different types of New Physics
scenarios, their motivation and how to see them at the LHC. I give an
overview of the difficulties associated with distinguishing New
Physics among the backgrounds from the Standard Model, and finally
present some best- and worst-case scenarios for the LHC.
