Text

There is one recommended text for the course:

Goldstein, Poole, and Safko, Classical Mechanics 3rd edition (ISBN: 0-201-65702-3).

Errata for the book (of which there is a lot!) should be consulted. Depending on the printing of the version you have there can be some very significant errors identified.

This will be the text I mostly follow for the course though many other books will cover the same material, for example, Landau and Lifshitz.

Lecture Times

The course meets MWF, 2:15PM-3:05PM, ROCK 303

Homework

The problem sets can be found elsewhere. There will be almost biweekly individual problem sets that will typically be due on Mondays.

Solutions must be turned in at the beginning of class on the day they are due.

Course Grading Scheme

Below are the approximate weights for the various aspects of the course. These may be adjusted at the instructors discretion.

Homework: 30%
Midterm Exam: 30%
Final Exam: 40%
Total 100%
