Practice Problem #23: Four more Problems before Third Hour Exam (2008)

Remarks:

These are five more practice problems I wrote up before the third hour exam in 2008. They are nice problems. Unfortunately, I seem to have over-written the Latex source so I have no way to edit these problems so they are all "bunched together" with the old dates and so forth.

  • Problem "P12" is the one I went through in class today (slightly modified). This is one of my most favorite problems I have ever written. It really gets at the flux concept. If you get the whole thing exactly correct with no problems, then this corresponds to "mastery".

  • Problem P13 is a good Faraday's Law rotating hoop problem, rather similar to the one you did for the homework I believe. Okay perhaps Very Similar. It's important that you can do this kind of problem. The only annoying part of this is the derivative with three terms....
  • Problem P14 We did this in class with the opposite B-field orientation today. Basic competance for Part (a), mastery for confidently solving part (b).
  • Problem P15 Student ask me what they have to know from the "reverse lecture" on Maxwell's equations. The short answer is that I am allowed to ask you an "essay question" to see if you understood the basic ideas behind that lecture.
  • Problem 16: This covers the topic of RLC resonance which we did not cover this year. So do not worry about parts (c) and (d).
